Sugar Lies is a short visual novel built around a bittersweet summer romance where a young man who despises lies encounters a girl who has mastered the art of playing the person everyone expects her to be. The game’s distinctive premise revolves around their dramatically opposing attitudes toward lies and acting, creating an unusual “worst encounter” that develops into a boy-meets-girl summer story.

Sugar Lies tells the story of Akito Nagatsuki, a young man who deeply hates lies and experiences physical discomfort whenever he senses someone lying or acting. His life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Yui Sakuramiya, a girl who has become exceptionally skilled at playing the role of her ideal self. Despite their conflicting personalities, their encounter becomes the beginning of a summer romance shaped by lies, acting, and complicated emotions.

As a short visual novel, Sugar Lies focuses on its character-driven story and the tension between truth and deception. Yui’s background as a former child prodigy raised under the strict guidance of her actor father adds another layer to her carefully constructed persona, while Akito’s unusual sensitivity to lies makes their relationship particularly difficult from the very beginning.
